The nuns' gallery is located today within the cloistered area. In summer, the Benedictine nuns of Müstair gather there five times a day for the monastic Liturgy of the Hours. Visitors to the monastery church are invited to listen to the nuns’ prayers and, by immersing themselves in the psalms, perhaps find some peace and inner tranquility themselves.

 

Gothic construction measures

Abbess Angelina Planta had the gallery for the nuns erected together with a vaulted ceiling with support columns in 1488-1492. The former single-nave church transformed into triple-nave hall church. At that time the carolingian frescoes had been painted over to a large extent, and partially covered with Gothic paintings.
