A circle of friends for a living world heritage site

Our activities and objectives

World Heritage Site

The Verein der Freunde des Klosters St. Johann in Müstair (Association of the Friends of the Convent of St John at Müstair) was founded in 1998 with the aim of bringing together people who feel a special connection to the convent and thus to the world heritage site. It has around 450 members. Thanks to membership fees, donations and bequests, the association is able to co-finance restoration projects. Contributions are tax-exempt and members are kept periodically informed about the progress of the restoration work through newsletters.

Activities of the association

The entire annual contributions are used to realize the foundation’s projects. The annual general meeting always takes place in Müstair. Participants have the chance to find out about the latest restoration progress from competent experts (the cantonal archaeologist, the monument conservator of the Canton of Graubünden or the scientific director of the foundation) on site. Events also take place at regular intervals in the lowlands, dedicated to a topic related to Müstair.
