Tour of the church
A guided tour reveals Müstair Convent church’s 1,250-year-old paintings. This is the largest and best-preserved mural painting cycle from the early Middle Ages. The oldest monumental statue of Charlemagne evidences the founding of the Convent of Müstair.

Tour of the museum
Twelve centuries of abbey building and art history
The convent museum is housed in the Planta Tower, the oldest residential and defence tower in the Alpine region (10th century). Part of the convent, it is home to treasures from 1,200 years of architectural and convent history. The museum also provides an insight into the life of the Benedictine nuns of Müstair. Duration: approx. 60-70 minutes

Combined tour
Guided tour of the church and museum
This tour combines the museum tour with a shortened tour of the church. Combined tours take place on advertised dates (see events calendar) and can be booked for groups or as a private tour.

Tour of the Chapel of the Holy Cross
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a jewel from Carolingian times. In the basement is the oldest dated beamed ceiling in Europe. It dates back to 788 and is covered by the original Carolingian mortar floor. On the upper floor, we provide an insight into 1,230 years of art and architectural history.
The restoration of the Chapel of the Holy Cross was completed in September 2018.
The chapel can only be visited on a guided tour. You will find the advertised dates for a guided tour in our events calendar. A tour can also be booked for groups or as a private tour.

Look! Tour of the archaeological archive
In the archaeological archive, visitors can marvel at the monastery's archaeological treasure, the result of over 100 years of research. In addition to the famous 8th-century wattle stones, it includes metal, ceramic, bone and stone artefacts from the Bronze Age to the 19th century.

Guided tours with fewer than six people (for combined museum & church fewer than eight people) can also be organised on request. In this case, the admission price for the group is as follows:

Combined tour of the church and museum: CHF 88 (for groups of seven or more; for groups of eight or more, the above admission prices apply)
Important information
- The church, museum and Chapel of the Holy Cross are unheated. Please dress warmly.
- Guided tours in German, Italian, English, French and Romansh.
- Given that the church is used for religious ceremonies (e.g. baptisms, weddings or funerals), guided tours cannot be guaranteed in every case.
- The centre apse of the convent church is currently being restored and is only open to the public on special occasions.
- Cancellations of booked guided tours must be received by the convent museum and shop by 5.00 pm the day before at the latest: T +41 81 858 61 89
- If a registered group does not turn up, 75% of the tour price will be charged.
- We ask you to be punctual. Should you nevertheless be late, please let us know.
- Buses travelling from South Tyrol must drive via Spondinig/Prad. (Buses are not allowed to drive through Glurns and Laatsch).
- The car park and bus stop are located directly opposite the monastery.
- It is also possible to pay in euros. The euro prices are based on the Swiss franc/euro exchange rate.

The museum is housed in an historic tower dating back to the 10th century. The three upper floors are therefore unfortunately not accessible for wheelchair users.
The convent and world heritage
A guided tour through 12 centuries of the convent, architectural and art history.
The journey leads from Charlemagne and a visit to the convent church and museum through several centuries to the present day. On display are the largest and best-preserved mural painting cycle from the early Middle Ages, the oldest monumental statue of Charlemagne, Carolingian marble and window glass, a Romanesque Virgin Mary, various baroque sculptures, a 17th-century table organ, historic living quarters of the nuns and their life in the past and present.
The tour can be combined with a film screening about the convent and, if possible, a discussion with Sister Domenica Dethomas.

Guided tour to accompany the textbook ‘Life in Graubünden’
This guided tour covers topics such as the Middle Ages, Christianisation, Charlemagne and life in a castle, in the countryside and in a convent. Based on the textbook "Leben in Graubünden" - "Viver en il Grischun" Volume I, a guided tour was designed for schools in Graubünden. It’s an opportunity for schoolchildren in years 4 to 6 in particular to deepen their knowledge.

Colour workshop
Experience painting and fresco technique
Mediaeval paintings are viewed in the convent and the painting technique is explained. Sketches are then made for the subsequent painting exercise. In the second part, pigments are mixed according to historical models and prepared wooden panels are painted.
Target group: primary school and above
