Pia Willi. Art and Convent

In 2025, the UNESCO World Heritage Convent of St. John in Müstair will celebrate its 1250th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the monastery’s museum is dedicating a retrospective to Sister Pia Willi - artist, textile designer, and former prioress.

The exhibition highlights drawings from three distinct creative periods between the poles of monastic life and artistic expression. For the first time, works from Sister Pia’s student years at the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts and the André Lhote Academy of Art in Paris will be on display, alongside embroidery designs for traditional costumes (Tracht) and the popular “Willi cards” featuring motifs inspired by life in the convent.
