Convent church from the 8th century
On a guided tour of the church you will discover the 1200 year old wall paintings. This is the largest and best preserved cycle of wall paintings from the early Middle Ages. The oldest monumental statue of Charlemagne bears witness to the founding of the monastery at Müstair.

Twelve centuries of monastic, architectural and art history
The museum is situated in the Planta Tower, the oldest fortified residential and defence tower in the Alpine region (10th century). As part of the convent, it houses treasures from 1200 years of monastic and structural history. The museum also offers a glimpse into the life of the Benedictine nuns of Müstair.

Guided tour in church and museum
This tour combines the museum tour with a shortened church tour. This type of guided tour is only available for groups booked in advance (minimum 8 people)

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a jewel of the Carolingian period. In the basement there is the oldest dated beam ceiling in Europe. It dates back to 788 and has the original Carolingian mortar floor on top. On the upper floor we give an insight into 1230 years of art and structural history.

The restoration work in the Holy Cross Chapel was completed in September 2018. The chapel can only be visited on a guided tour. At the moment we offer this kind of tour only in German. However, if you are interested in visiting this chapel, please let us know.

On request we also offer a guided tour of the museum or of the church for fewer than 6 people and a combined guided tour (church and museum) for fewer than 8 people.

• Church, Museum and Chapel are not heated. Please dress yourself warmly.
• Guided tours in English, German, French, Italian and Romansh (except tour of the Chapel of the Holy Cross)
• In the event of unforeseen events in the church, guided tours in the church and "combined" tours cannot be guaranteed.
• Cancellation of booked tours must be notified to the museum & butia at the latest by 5 pm the previous day. Otherwise we will have to charge 75% of the arranged price for the guided tour (T. +41 81 858 61 89)
• We ask you to be punctual. If you are delayed, however, please let us know as soon as possible.
• Buses arriving from Italy (South Tyrol) must go via Spondinig / Gewerbezone Prad am Stilfserjoch. No transit through Glurns or Laatsch possible.
• Parking and bus stop in front of the convent.
• Payment in Euros is possible. The Euro price varies according to the Swiss Franc / Euro exchange rate.

We have no signposted parking spaces for people in wheelchairs. The car park opposite the monastery is free.

The museum is situated in a historic tower from the 10th century. The three upper floors are therefore unfortunately not accessible to people in wheelchairs

Kloster und Welterbe

Eine Führung durch 12 Jahrhunderte Kloster-, Bau- und Kunstgeschichte.
Die Reise führt von Karl dem Grossen und der Besichtigung der Klosterkirche und des Museums über mehrere Jahrhunderte bis ins Heute. Zu sehen sind u.a. der grösste und besterhaltene Wandmalereizyklus aus dem Frühmittelalter, die älteste Monumentalstatue Karls des Grossen, karolingischer Marmor und Fensterglas, eine romanische Muttergottes, diverse barocke Skulpturen, eine Tischorgel aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, historische Wohnräume der Nonnen und ihr Leben einst und heute.
Die Führung kann verbunden werden mit einer Filmvorführung zum Kloster und falls terminlich möglich mit einem Gespräch mit Schwester Domenica Dethomas.

Führung zum Lehrbuch „Leben in Graubünden“
In dieser Führung geht es unter anderem um das Mittelalter, die Christianisierung, Karl den Grossen und das Leben auf einer Burg, auf dem Land und im Kloster. Ausgehend vom Lehrbuch «Leben in Graubünden» – «Viver en il Grischun» Band I, wurde eine Führung für die Schulen in Graubünden konzipiert. Dabei können vor allem die Schülerinnen und Schüler der 4. bis 6. Klasse ihr Wissen vertiefen.
Zielgruppe: ab Primarstufe (v.a. 4. – 6. Klasse)
Dauer: 90 Minuten

Farbenwerkstatt
Erlebnisangebot rund um Malerei und Freskentechnik. Mittelalterliche Malereien werden im Kloster angeschaut und die Maltechnik erläutert. Daraufhin werden Skizzen für die spätere Malübung gemacht. Im zweiten Teil werden Pigmente nach historischem Vorbild angerührt und präparierte Holztäfelchen bemalt.
