For more than 30 years archeologists have been unearthing the secrets of the 1200-year
old monastery. Spectacular finds allow us to recreate the mighty Carolingian monastery
of the year 800 AD. The archeologic finds tell of the waxing and waning of the
monastery's fortunes, as well as of the expansion or contraction of its physical
size, of devastating fires and remodelling and modernization efforts up to the
most recent past. The research is done by the Department of Archeology of the
Canton Graubuenden.
